Located by the Jinhai Lake, dubbed as "the Fish of Shanghai" for its goldfish shape, the museum is composed of three interconnected yet relatively independent structures. The exterior features a combination of copper grille and glass curtain walls, creating a seamless transition between the interior and exterior of the building. The architectural design blends the natural advantage of the lush water system of the Jinhai Lake with the artistic charm of traditional Chinese culture, creating a glamorous and welcoming space for visitors.

The new premises cover a floor area of approximately 20,000 square meters with a total construction area of 36,000 square meters. The main structure consists of three interconnected yet relatively independent spaces. These three elliptical buildings are connected through rooftop public green spaces, circular walkways, second-floor corridors, first-floor landscape water features, and public spaces. The undulating roof slopes not only comply with the height control in urban planning, but also constitute no pressure for the surrounding environment, creating an engaging public area.

The operational areas of Fengxian Museum comprise the museum, Yanzi Memorial Hall and Shen’s Garden in a "one pillar, two wings" three-line linkage model, fostering differentiated development. The new premises are the "one pillar" that integrates history, archaeology, humanities, and art, serving as an important window to understand and showcase the historical culture of Fengxian district and even Shanghai. Yanzi Memorial Hall and Shen’s Garden, as the "two wings", each carries unique cultural missions.

Currently, the Fengxian Museum houses nearly 10,000 cultural relics and over 3,000 reference items, including paper artifacts, gold and silver jewelry, pottery, and miscellaneous items.
