New energy storage station begins operating in Jinan

A new energy storage project known as the Queshan Electrochemical Standalone Energy Storage Project recently began operating in Jinan, capital of Shandong province.

The project, located in Jinan's Tianqiao district and developed by Jinan Energy Investment Holding Group Co, will have a total capacity of 200MW/400MWh and is being constructed in phases. The first phase of the project, with a capacity of 100MW/200MWh, has already been completed.

By storing surplus electricity, the project promotes balanced energy utilization, enhances the operational efficiency of the power system, and provides robust support for grid security. Additionally, its operation will gradually reduce reliance on traditional energy sources, drive the green transformation of the energy structure, and contribute to sustainable development.

According to Guo Gangchen, assistant general manager of Jinan Energy Investment Holding Group Co, a single charge of the storage facility can store 200,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity, enough to meet the daily electricity needs of approximately 30,000 households, with 66 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

The project is also designed to engage in market-based transactions, easing peak-shaving pressure on thermal power units and improving the economic efficiency and operational flexibility of the power system.
