Beijing's hutongs are known for their historical pedigree, and can be traced back to the Yuan dynasty around 800 years ago. Today, there are 4,000 areas in Beijing that are still recognized as hutongs. Some residents of the hutongs complain about inconveniences such as low water pressure via the 12345 hotline.

To address these issues, the Taoranting Street Office has introduced a renovation plan for the hutong area that aims to improve people's quality of life.
