National sailing event kicks off in Qingdao

The 2024 National Sailing Championship opened at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center on Oct 14, and will go until Oct 19.

Organized by the Chinese Yachting Association, the event is at China's highest level for a national, single-sport competition and features three Olympic-level events: 49er, 49erFx, and Nacra 17. It has attracted over 170 athletes, team leaders, and coaches from 11 professional teams in Shandong, Zhejiang, Fujian, and Shanghai.

In recent years, Qingdao has focused on becoming China's sailing capital and has hosted a series of international and domestic sailing events leveraging its abundant marine resources. Through this competition, Qingdao aims to further promote the popularity and development of sailing sports, enhance the influence of its urban sports brand, and create a well-known sailing sports center and sports tourism destination for local and international tourists.
