The newly created Yangju Opera Zixu Crosses the River premiered successfully in Yangzhou on Sept 1, with over 500 opera enthusiasts attending. Based on the folklore about Wu Zixu, a Chinese military general and politician in the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC), the play highlights the brave citizens who risked their lives to help him. This innovative take on traditional Yangju Opera has garnered widespread praise.
