Having worked as a stage designer in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region for decades, Zhang Xuefang fosters a deep attachment to the place and its people.
Besides his stage work, he also layers oil paints to depict the various scenes of the local life, their joy and hard work, exhibiting the natural environment and fabulous landscapes that shaped their understanding of the world.
A lover of traditional Chinese music since childhood, Zhang has sought to render a rhythmic feeling to accentuate the atmosphere of extensiveness and the weight of the history and dynamic cultures of Xinjiang in his paintings.
