A meeting themed on economic and trade cooperation with Nantong, Jiangsu province was held in Tokyo, Japan on June 11.

Wu Xinming, Party secretary of Nantong, delivered a speech at the meeting, saying that Nantong boasts a long history of exchanges with Japan.

Due to the Yangtze River Delta integration and other national strategies, the city has emerged as a new hub of industries and investment in the YRD, offering a solid foundation and broad space for cooperation between Nantong and Japan, he noted.

Wu added that Japan is an important trade partner of the Chinese city and the second-largest source of foreign investment. He hopes that both sides will carry out more practical cooperation in economic and trade exchanges, industrial development, culture and tourism.

Yuji Miyamoto, former Japanese ambassador to China, said in his speech that the economic and trade exchanges and cooperation between cities in China and Japan are crucial to the two countries' relations.

Nantong is favored by Japanese enterprises for its convenient location, favorable business environment, and huge development potential, Miyamoto added.

He believes that more will come of the cooperation between Nantong and Japan.

Luo Xiaomei, minister of economy and commerce at the Chinese embassy in Japan, promised that the Chinese embassy in Japan will always offer strong support to Nantong.

Agreements on eight cooperation projects between Nantong and Japanese enterprises and institutions were signed during the meeting.
