This group of illustrations is inspired by the Tang Dynasty (618-907) poem On the Frontier written by Wang Changling (698-757). The first one depicts a solemn and desolate frontier. In the second are shown soldiers on an expedition celebrating a festival in their camp. The third one portrays the majesty of General Li Guang in battle. The last one signifies the repulsion of the Xiongnu, implying that victory is in sight.
