This illustration is inspired by the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) poem The Moon on the West River written by Su Shi (1037-1101). The poem, with its grand yet delicate portrayal of "worldly matters" and "life", evokes an image of a frontier battlefield. Although it does not fully depict the fallen leaves of autumn, the broken branches, withered leaves, and endless roads still convey a sense of desolation and loneliness.
