This illustration is inspired by the Tang Dynasty (618-907) poem The Yellow Crane Tower written by Cui Hao. The Yellow Crane Tower stands alone in the mountains, solitary and desolate. The surrounding landscape is barren, with falling leaves scattered about, and the former glory has faded away. The illustration aims to convey through painting the poignant and solitary mood of the poem, creating a sense of distant history and the passage of time.
