The Mopanshan site in Langxi county, Anhui province, is situated on the eastern bank of Nanyi Lake, the largest lake in southern Anhui. It boasts a cultural deposit spanning from the Neolithic Majiabang Culture to the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC).
To date, 343 tombs and over 4,000 relics including jade ware, stone tools, and pottery have been excavated at this site. It stands as the only large, well-preserved, and culturally rich site dating back to the pre-Qin (before 221 BC) period discovered in the region. This makes it a rare central settlement in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River with nearly 4,000 years of continuous history, as well as a model for exploring cultural evolution in those waters.
