South Korean technology company Samsung Electronics Co Ltd unveiled on Thursday night its latest artificial intelligence-powered flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S24 series in China, in a bid to grab a bigger slice of the pie in the highly competitive smartphone market.

Samsung Electronics China and Baidu AI Cloud, Chinese tech heavyweight Baidu Inc's cloud computing unit, announced a strategic partnership on AI ecosystems, to bring the AI capabilities of Baidu's large language model Ernie Bot to the Galaxy S24 Series.

Priced from 5,499 yuan ($766), the devices have a series of enhanced AI functionalities including intelligent summarization, advanced typesetting and real-time call translation.

The handsets can transcribe speech into text in real-time; support multi-language translation; summarize lengthy content into clear, intelligently organized formats at the click of a button; and enhance efficiency in cross-language communication and office work.

Users can long-hold the home button and circle or tap the screen to learn more about what they see through an online search engine.

Global market consultancy IDC forecasts that over 70 percent of terminal devices in the Chinese market will feature AI functionality by 2024, and AI devices will account for 55 percent of the total market share.

IDC also said most enterprises will experience a notable shift in the weight of technology investments toward AI implementation and adoption of AI-enhanced products and services.
