China (Western) Hydrogen Energy Conference kicks off in Shaanxi

The China (Western) Hydrogen Conference, hosted by the Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Shaanxi Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and the Yulin Municipal People's Government, and organized by Shaanxi Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Co., Ltd. and China Automotive Information Technology (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., opened on September 14 at the Yulin Convention and Exhibition Center, Yulin, Shaanxi province in Northwest China.

The conference focused on the latest products, technologies, and equipment in the field of hydrogen energy in Shaanxi under the "dual carbon" goals, with the theme of "hydrogen energy · new track, low-carbon · new future", as well as the application of hydrogen energy in transportation, energy, chemical and other fields.

Dozens of top experts, scholars, and industry elites from around the world gathered in Yulin to discuss the new cause of hydrogen energy and seek a new future for hydrogen energy.

John Sheffield, president of the International Hydrogen Energy Association, congratulated the conference via video.

Compared to electricity, hydrogen energy is considered the "ultimate environmentally friendly energy" and an important path to achieving "carbon neutrality" and "carbon peaking".

The central government of China has made it clear that hydrogen energy is an important component of its future national energy system and an important carrier for energy terminals to achieve green and low-carbon transformation. The hydrogen energy industry is a strategic emerging industry and a key development direction for future industries.

Zhang Xiaoguang, vice chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Political Consultative Conference and Party secretary of the Yulin Municipal Committee, introduced the current development status of the hydrogen energy industry in Yulin city, stating that the city has introduced 16 policy measures in 6 aspects, established a special support fund of 300 million yuan per year, built two hydrogen refueling stations, and put 20 hydrogen heavy trucks into operation.

This conference has received attention and support from international institutions. John Sheffield proposed that China plays a very important role in hydrogen energy, and green hydrogen provides the driving force for achieving net zero emissions.

“By 2050, we expect to achieve the goal of net zero emissions,” John Sheffield said.

Rajendra Shende, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Chairman of the Green Earth Foundation, and former Director of the Paris Office of the United Nations Environment Program, delivered a keynote speech, pointing out that countries around the world should work closely together to develop more bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements around the development of hydrogen energy standards, in order to better promote the deployment of the international hydrogen energy industry and help achieve net zero emissions as soon as possible.

The conference also held a series of signing ceremonies, including 48 projects under the strategic cooperation agreement between Yulin City and Xi'an Jiaotong University, with a total investment of 33.28 billion yuan.
