Shanghai Grand Theatre will present the Kunqu opera production Six Chapters of a Floating Life from July 27 to 29.
Premiered in 2019, the opera was adapted from the autobiography of Shen Fu (1763-1825), in which Shen recalls the happiness he experienced with his late wife Yun.
Starring Shi Xiaming, the director of the Kunqu Opera Theater of Jiangsu province, as the hero, and Shan Wen, a renowned Kunqu artist and a professor at the Nanjing University of Arts in Jiangsu, as the heroine, the opera "illustrates the importance of collaborations for artistic institutions in the Yangtze River Delta region", said Zhang Xiaoding, general manager of Shanghai Grand Theatre.
The opera was previously presented in Shanghai and Nanjing in 2020 and 2021. Last year the online stream of the production, which was part of SGT's online performance season, was viewed by more than 3.67 million people.
