The original Huangmei Opera The First Mountain was recently staged at the Jiangsu Grand Theatre in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province. This magnificent production, created and performed by Huangmei Opera Troupe of the province’s Xuyi county showcases the rich historical and cultural significance of the Grand Canal.
The work focuses on literary giant Su Shi's visit to the First Mountain, an iconic landmark of the county along the canal, and his creation of the masterpiece Xing Xiang Zi.
