In ancient China, people laid xiantao (a lute-like ancient Chinese musical instrument) with strings to generate music. After a long evolution, the instrument developed into what we call sanxian (three-stringed Chinese lute) today. There are many kinds of sanxian, each with its own characteristics.
In this episode of Chinese Music Tutorial, musician Wang Peipei introduces the history and types of this traditional Chinese musical instrument.
