“Lighting New Year lanterns” is a traditional New Year custom in Yongjia county of Wenzhou, Zhejiang province. After the Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner, families use small red candles to light up lanterns made of red radish or sweet potato. They are placed in the bedroom, living room, hallway, kitchen, bathroom, and entrance, symbolizing prosperity and good luck. [Video by Chen Xinyi]
