In its assembly of immensity and diversity, the National Art Museum of China holds dozens of artworks depicting those working at the grassroot level, be it farmers, factory workers, miners and medical staff.
To mark the May 1 International Workers' Day, NAMOC has mounted Beautiful Workers, an exhibition through May 7, showing selected paintings, prints and sculptures in its collection which hail the spirit of those who labor.
Iconic works on display include Father, by Luo Zhongli, in which he depicted an old farmer whose dark skin tone and wrinkles have deeply touched the audience over years. It is one of the most widely exhibited paintings of NAMOC.
Also on show is Doctor, a portrait made by Jin Shangyi to show a doctor taking a brief rest during work.
