Two major temple ruins were discovered at Guchengcun, Hunchun, Jilin province.
The No 1 temple, dating back to the 5th century, is the first Koguryo (Goguryeo or Gaogouli, 37 BC-AD 668) Buddhist temple found in China, and the earliest Buddhist temple site in Northeast China.
The No 2 temple is a temple of high social status in the Bohai (Balhae) state (698-926), and helps in the study of the layout and architectural structure of temples during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), and the Sarira burial system of ancient China.
