Low-altitude Tangjiahe aiming for a high encounter rate of wild animals

The Tangjiahe Area of the Giant Panda National Park, located in Qingchuan county, Guangyuan, Sichuan province, is the home to various rare wild animals, including Giant pandas, Sichuan takins, Sichuan golden monkeys, tufted deer and three-toed woodpeckers.

In 2014, Tangjiahe was featured on the Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and is the area with the highest encounter rate of rare wild animals in a low altitude area in the world.

Sitting at the northeastern foot of Minshan Mountain, Tangjiahe National Nature Reserve covers an area of 40,000 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of 96.15 percent. There are more than 3,700 species of plants and animals, including 24 national first class protected animals and three national first class protected plants: Ginkgo biloba, Davidia involucrata, and Taxus.

Tangjiahe was a refuge for ancient creatures during the Quaternary glacial activity. Through generations of efforts, the plants, rocks, birds and animals of Tangjiahe maintain their original appearances. It boasts Yinping Ancient Road of the Three Kingdoms (220-280) period and many other primary-state landscapes.

The area has been designated as an A-level nature reserve by the World Wildlife Fund. It is also renowned as a "natural gene pool" due to its rich biodiversity, and inspires visitors with its grand beauty.
