Dehong prefecture is located in western Yunnan province. Bordering Myanmar in the north, west and south, it was a hub on the southern Silk Road in ancient times. Dehong features many river systems. Hot springs and lakes dot the region. Ruili River and the Daying River run through Dehong and flow westward into the Indian Ocean.
