One of the classic plays by Cao Yu (1910-96), the drama The Wilderness was staged at the Ma Family Compound in Kunming, Yunnan province, providing an immersive experience to the audience. Having first toured in Kunming in 1939, the drama depicts a revenge story between two families during the 1930s.
