Yaozhou ware, deriving from Tongchuan in Northwest China’s Shaanxi province, is a kind of celadon that reached the peak of its development during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127).
Here is a Five Dynasties (907-960) Yaozhou ware celadon ewer in the shape of a winged fish. Its upturned mouth and tail give the ewer a vivid and exquisite structure.
The ewer was excavated in Beipiao in Northeast China’s Liaoning province, which is almost 2,000 kilometers away from the kiln where it had been fired. It is in the permanent collection of the Liaoning Provincial Museum.
