Guo Nian, the Chinese version of the ballet classic The Nutcracker, made its debut at the Tianqiao Theater in Beijing on Sept 15. Meaning "celebrating the New Year" in Chinese, the adaptation moves the story from Christmas to Spring Festival, a time for family reunions. It also adds a variety of traditional cultural elements.
