Modern dance performance Disappear will make its Beijing premiere on July 27 at Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center as a part of the Spring for Chinese Arts Festival.
The piece is choreographed and directed by dancer Hou Ying under the commission of Shanghai International Arts Festival, and co-produced by Houying Dance Theater and Ming Contemporary Art Museum.
Hou fused fencing into modern dance as an expression of confrontation, and asked professional fencing coach Tian Yuchuan and referee Liang Jiayue to instruct the dancers on fencing for six months.
The dance also invited Austrian musician Cornelius Berkowitz as the composer and Dutch artist Kevin Polak to work in sound design.
