Shangjing (上京), literally the "upper capital", is the political, economic and cultural center of the Liao Dynasty (916-1125). It was built in the year of 918. The Liao Shangjing site, one of the well-preserved ancient capital sites in China, is located in the Baarin Left Banner of Chifeng, Inner Mongolia. As the first capital city built by Chinese nomads in northern China’s prairie, it boasts enchanting scenery and shines like a pearl.
