The 7th Dazhipo Qiongju Opera Cultural Festival kicked off in Haikou, capital of Hainan province, on May 30. The event, to close in December, will organize competitions for high-quality original works and highlight great opera artists.
The Qiongju Opera features local dialect as well as folk musical and dancing elements of Hainan. It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
