Revered calligrapher Wang Xizhi (303-361) once invited his friends to gather at the orchid pavilion of Zhejiang province in spring, drinking, writing poems and enjoying the scenery.
Wen Zhengming (1470-1559), a prominent artist in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), was inspired by the story and created the Orchid Pavilion Gathering (Lanting xiuxi tu) in the blue-and-green landscape style in 1542. Let’s appreciate the elegant figures and appealing scenes.
