Paying tribute to Lin Huiyin (1904-55), the first female architect in China. A pingtan work in her honor will be staged at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center on March 20. It consists of three acts telling Lin’s legendary life story.
Originating in Suzhou during the Song Dynasty (960-1279), pingtan art is usually performed in softer and more narrative voices accompanied by traditional instruments like sanxian and pipa.
