The Qiong (meaning Hainan) Opera piece The Imperial Strife was staged in Haikou city, capital of Hainan province on Feb 15, in celebration of the Lantern Festival. The story depicts a fierce struggle for the throne in ancient China.
Unique to the Hainan area, the Qiong Opera originated from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and was listed as the national intangible cultural relic in 2008.
