Mei Lanfang (1894-1961) has been known as China's “King of Drama” since 1917 with his superb performance as a female (known as dan) in Peking Opera. His legendary life is on exhibit at the National Museum of China in Beijing with nearly 400 articles related to his art and life for public viewing.
