This was a place for worshipping Confucius and the highest educational institution in Quanzhou. It embodies Quanzhou’s intellectual and political elites from the 10th to the 14th century. These social elites played a vital role in promoting and administering maritime trade during the Song and Yuan dynasties. The high standard of the architectural style reflects the economic and cultural prosperity that maritime trade brought to Quanzhou.
