Located 30 kilometers east of Xi’an city, the Huaqing Palace Scenic Spot can be found near the World Heritage site of the Terracotta Warriors, the eighth wonder of the world. It was inscribed as an early national top-level (that is 5A-level) scenic spot with rich hot spring resources and deep cultural background. Emperors from the Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui and Tang dynasties (c.11th BC - AD 907) were intrigued by its charms and built their Xanadus there. Thus, it has witnessed many important historical events and been the source of many stories, among which the romance between Emperor Xuanzong (r.713-56) and Yang Yuhuan (719-56), his beloved concubine, is probably the most influential. The site is the crowning symbolic tourist attraction of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) culture.

Nestling in the Lishan Mountains, the scenic spot is home to a variety of attractions, both natural and cultural, including the Tang Dynasty Imperial Hot Spring Resort Site Museum, the Xi’an Incident Site of the Five-Chamber Hall, Jiulong Lake, Furong Lake, the Tang Dynasty Imperial Theater Site Museum and other signature architecture complexes including halls and a classical garden. With an altitude of 1,302 meters, the Lishan Mountains are dotted with places of interest such as a beacon tower, a bridge, and temples worshiping different deities. The beautiful sunset scenery at the mountain is praised as one of the eight outstanding views of central Shaanxi.
