Based on the eponymous novel, the Chuanju Opera work Ripples across Stagnant Water was staged at the Zijin Grand Theater in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, last night in a national top drama competition.
First developed in Sichuan province during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the Chuanju Opera incorporates a unique sense of humor and consummate skills such as mask changing and knife play.
