Niangzhai, a traditional Chinese castle in Liangzhai village of Shenghuang town, Minqing county of Fuzhou, Fujian province, has more than 300 years of history and covers an area of more than 7,000 square meters. [Photo by Zhu Xianghao/For chinadaily.com.cn]

Niangzhai covers an area of more than 7,000 square meters. Similar to other historic architecture built on hills in Fujian province, Niangzhai not only served as housing for villagers but also functioned as a defensive fortification against outside attackers.
