Soldiers from the People's Armed Police Corps of the Ningxia Hui autonomous region are receiving their fourth-quarter "devil training" near Helan Mountain, where temperatures have plunged to -15 C.
During each of the seven intense days, soldiers are given 18 hours of training and march more than 30 kilometers. The training includes long-range raids, reflex shooting, anti-jamming memory and mountain searches, among others.
"It is both a physical and psychological challenge for me," said Zhang Jiaxing, one of the soldiers. "But the moment I heard the whistle of the officer, I get excited. Each of us finds a way to hold up under the extreme weather conditions and want to use the opportunity to enhance our abilities and willpower," Zhang said.
