The Great Confucius
大哉孔子

From May 10, 2019
Location: Confucius Museum, Qufu city, Shandong province

Confucius (551-479 BC), or Kongzi, was a Chinese philosopher and political theorist whose thoughts still influence people today.

This exhibition takes Confucius's life, contributions and impact on future generations as its main narrative thread, following the latest archaeological and academic findings, and employing storytelling techniques to demonstrate the relevance of cultural relics.

Through a combination of exhibits and different themes, the exhibition is divided into six parts: The Era of Confucius, The Life of Confucius, The Sagely Wisdom of Confucius, Confucius and Chinese Civilization, Confucius and Global Civilization, and Tradition of the Kong Family.

It presents Confucius’s life, wisdom and profound influence through a wealth of exhibits, ranging from cultural relics unearthed in the old city of the State of Lu, portraits of Confucius, and the Illustrated Biography of Confucius, to ancient books and a sacrificial altarpiece from the Temple of Confucius.

Costumes from Ming(1368-1644) and Qing(1644-1911) dynasties, private administrative archives, and works of descendants show the millennia-long historical heritage of the Kong Family.

To help further engage the public, the exhibition includes interactive experiences and perception via art and technology. It forms a narrative approach that integrates large-scale multimedia and space, forming a clear narrative logic from "admiration", "cognition", "conversation", "enlightenment" and "tribute" to Confucius, and leaving a deep impression on visitors.

In terms of space design, the exhibition introduces theatrical methods to convey abstract thoughts through visual and stereoscopic scenes. In addition, the exhibition adopts an online-plus-offline model, with an online virtual tour which has gained massive popularity.
