BEIJING - "Aida", one of the most popular masterpieces of Italian opera master Giuseppe Verdi, produced by the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) is set to be performed from Feb 26, 2020 to March 1, 2020.

Premiered in 1871, it tells the love story between an Ethiopian princess Aida and Egyptian hero Radames. With their countries at war with each other, the couple is indecisive in a dilemma at a choice between love and loyalty for defending the country.

Aida's loyalty to her motherland and overwhelming infatuation with Radames paired with a messy love triangle and the hero's fall from grace have left audiences around the world lamenting over this tragic romance for over a century.

Verdi blended ancient musical features into his opera representation to give the audience a deeper understanding of Egyptian regional and cultural characteristics.

The NCPA version of "Aida" was first performed to the public in 2015. Renowned set designer Ezio Frigerio and costume designer Franca Squarciapino will work with the upcoming version.
