People placed the wheat grass grids in the desert and planted trees on them. Gradually, the green land moved towards the desert hinterlands.
"If the wheat grass grids are tightly bound up, the sandstorm covers them easily; if the grids are sparse, they can't withstand the sandstorm and are easy to break," Zhang said. "Practice shows one-meter by one-meter mesh grids have the best effect."
