Set up in October 1994, National Xuchang Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved to be a provincial level development zone in 1997 and upgraded into a national one under the approval of the State Council in December 2010. With a total area of 59.5 square kilometers, including an urban planning area of 20.26 sq km, the zone governs two subdistrict offices and 23 administrative villages with a population of over 100,000.
Lying in the southeast of Xuchang, Henan province, the zone enjoys superior geographic location and a convenient transportation network. It is 80 km away from Zhengzhou and 50 km from Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport. With National Highway 107, Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway, and Beijing-Guangzhou Railway passing though, the zone boasts a three-dimensional traffic network integrating highways, railways, and aviation.
Centering on the equipment manufacturing and spare parts industry, which plays a leading role in the zone, and the two characteristic industries of hair products and bioindustry, National Xuchang Economic and Technological Development Zone has sped up the construction of five characteristic industrial parks, which are Korea Industrial Park, Elevator Industrial Park, Hair Products Industrial Park, Modern Logistics Park, and a pioneer park for middle and small-sized enterprises.
In the first quarter of 2018, the prime operating revenue of industrial enterprises above a designated size totaled 2.4 billion yuan ($353.3 million), up 10.5 percent year-on-year. The fixed-asset investment was 1.79 billion yuan, an increase of 12.2 percent.
