Materials

Chongqing is endowed with abundant minerals. Reserves of alumina, magnesium, barium, and sandstone that Chongqing occupies lead the country, and have helped it to develop into a predominant center of aluminum and steel processing, a production base for green building materials in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and a national base for new material research.

Producer service

Chongqing’s financial institutions outnumber those of other cities in central and west China. It is a major clearing house in the west region and the non-performing loan ratio in 2017 was only 1.16 percent. More than 10 foreign banks, such as HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, and Citibank, have set up branches in the city.

As for the convention and exhibition sector, Chongqing is home to the CQ International Convention & Exhibition Center and the Chongqing International Expo Center.

Chongqing serves as a pilot area for cross-border e-commerce and has attracted famous platforms like Alibaba and JD. It is also a pilot area for comprehensive reform of the service industry, and is now working to boost trade and exhibitions of bonded logistics, cloud computing and big data technology, and offshore financial settlement.

Future outlook

According to the plan approved by the State Council in 2016, the Chengdu-Chongqing city cluster will guide integrated and coordinated industrial development, with different areas playing their unique roles on shared resource platforms. The plan raised the following requirements:

To integrate and enlarge equipment manufacturing industrial clusters.

To incubate emerging industrial clusters of electronic information, the Internet of Things, new materials, robotics, biological medicine, and other sectors.

To coordinate the development of energy industries and build a sustainable economy.

To develop service industrial clusters featuring modern logistics, trade in services, financial services, and technology transfer.

To support agriculture and forestry products processing industrial clusters.

To develop culture industrial clusters by forging an industrial chain linking culture, tourism, technology, ecology, publishing, entertainment, gaming, and creative services.

To build an international travel destination and consumption center with natural wonders, historical relics, cultural products, and modern facilities.
