Jiangxi

Overview

Jiangxi province is situated in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It borders Zhejiang and Fujian provinces to the east, Guangdong to the south, Hunan to the west, and Hubei and Anhui to the north. It covers an area of 1,669,000 square kilometers with a population of about 40 million.

Mountains surround Jiangxi province on three sides. The southern half of the province is hilly with ranges and valleys interspersed; while the northern half is flatter and lower in altitude. The highest point in Jiangxi is Huanggang Mountain in the Wuyi Mountains, bordering Fujian province. It has an altitude of 2,157 meters.

Jiangxi has a warm and humid climate with cold springs and winters, hot summers and dry autumns thus accounting for its four distinct seasons. Annual rainfall averages 1,400-1,800 millimeters and the average temperature of the province is 3 C to 9 C in January and 27 C-31 C in July.

The Gan River dominates the province, flowing through the entire length of the province from south to north. It enters Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake of China, in the north.

Jiangxi has insisted on applying a scientific outlook on development, emphasizing innovations, establishing new businesses, and developing in a harmonious way. Entering the new century, the province strives to acquire and implement the scientific development approach and take the opening-up policy as the key for growth.

In 2017, Jiangsu's GDP reached 2.08 trillion yuan, up 8.9 percent year-on-year, with fiscal revenue totaling some 22.47 billion yuan, an increase of 9.1 percent year-on-year. The province's fixed assets investment recorded more than 2.17 trillion yuan, up 12.3 percent year-on-year.

The proportion of the primary industry to secondary industry to the service industry was 9.4 to 47.9 to 42.7. The service industry developed at a rapid pace with overall added value surpassing 800 billion yuan, up 10.7 percent year-on-year.

The total import and export of Jiangxi reached $44.35 billion yuan, up 38.9 percent year-on-year. Foreign trade has become one of the key drivers of the province's economic development.

Pillar Industries

Implementing a strategy for the new pattern of industrialization, Jiangxi nurtures and develops industries with Jiangxi characteristics, which is evident in its tourism industry, agriculture industry, aviation industry, cultural industry and modern logistics industry.

Tourism industry

Jiangxi Province has four world heritages, two world geological parks, one internationally important wetland, 12 State-level scenic spots, 44 State-level forest parks, and eight national nature reserves. The historical sites including Tengwang Pavilion, Donglin Monastery and the ancient tea-producing areas of Jiangxi province also attract guests from all corners of the world. 

In 2017, the tourism revenue of Jiangxi surpassed 236.7 million yuan, accounting for 11.36 percent of its GDP. In the province, which is home to a big number of Red Tourism sites, the income generated by Red Tourism was 115.7 billion yuan in 2016. The provincial government expects to see its income to reach 250 billion yuan. By the end of the previous year, there were 10 5A national-level scenic spots in Jiangxi and 122 4A tourism destinations.

Agriculture Industry

Jiangxi makes good use of its ecological conditions and industrial advantages to promote agricultural industrialization, and develops pollution-free, green, organic foods, evolving ten leading industries, such as rice, hogs, aquatic products, waterfowl, fruits, tea, camellia oleifera, bamboo, traditional Chinese medicinal materials, and merchandise vegetables. Jiangxi's special agricultural products sell well at home and abroad, such as high-quality rice, lean-meat pig, Gannan navel orange, Nanfeng tangerines and Dazhangshan organic tea.

Aviation Industry

Jiangxi has become a manufacturing base of China's "Jetliner project" by its advanced aviation industry foundation. In the first batch of nine domestic suppliers of the "Jetliner project", Jiangxi is the only province with two suppliers of aircraft body. Hongdu Aviation Industry Corporation was given the task to research and manufacture front and middle sections of the fuselage, which accounted for 25 percent share of the aircraft body. Changhe Aircraft got the task of research and production of flap and wing parts.

In recent years, the growth rate of Jiangxi's aviation industry has maintained to be more than 20 percent. The total revenue of the industry is expected to reach 85 billion yuan this year.

Cultural industries

Jiangxi cultural industries have been expanding in recent years, covering press and publishing, art, theatrical performances, tea culture and media. The province aims to build itself into a highland of the middle China for cultural industries and plans a number of cultural industrial parks and demonstration bases.

Modern logistics industry

Since 2000, Jiangxi has seen rapid development in the logistics industry. The development of the logistics industry will play an important role in structure adjustment and transformation way, production promotion and consumption stimulation, employment enhancement and improvement of the urban and rural logistics service system. 

Advantages

Jiangxi is praised as a land endowed with rich natural resources and outstanding intelligent people. With an advantageous geographic location and abundant natural resources, Jiangxi is a hot place for domestic and overseas investment. More than 10,000 investors have established their businesses here. The region's advantages are listed as the following:

First, Jiangxi is a place with gorgeous ancient civilization and glorious revolutionary tradition, and it's also the cradle of the Chinese Revolution. The province possesses green mountains, clear waters and cultural heritages, including the famous Lushan Moutain, Jinggangshan, Dragon Palace Cave and porcelains in Jingdezhen.

Second, Jiangxi has untouched natural environment and prioritized ecology-friendly environment for sustainable development. Insisting on the concept of "clear water and verdant mountains are as good as gold and silk mountains", the province strengthens environmental protection and ecological improvement with great efforts.

Third, Jiangxi has an advanced transport system, which lays a solid foundation for its communication and logistics. Jiangxi's highway-mileage reached 133,800 km, evolving a road network which takes Nanchang as a hub, provincial road as main framework, and interlinks provinces, cities, counties and towns. Expressway mileage reached 2,433 km. Jiujiang port is one of the national important ports, and one of the first batches of the cross-Straits direct transportation ports. Ganjiang River and Poyang Lake are the main waterway with waterway-mileage 5,716 km. Its 42 ports have annual traffic over 10000 tons, 19 more than one million tons, Jiujiang Port with more than 28.52 million tons.

Fourth, Jiangxi steers development course of open economy by relying on industrial parks for industry, strengthening economic and technical cooperation with the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and the Taiwan Straits west coast economic zone, bringing the advantages of low costs of production factors and advantageous position into full play.
