Sitting in Lushan county, Pingdingshan in Central China's Henan province, Yaoshan Mountain was named by ancient inhabitants after the Memorial Temple of Emperor Yao (c.24th-23th century BC), a legendary monarch in ancient China.

Towering 208 meters, the giant Buddha is the tallest of its kind in the world, which cost 12 years and 1.2 billion yuan ($174.47 million) to build. It stands in the central plains of China surrounded by the green mountains and attracts tens of thousands of believers from home and abroad to worship the giant Buddha.

Honored as "the most beautiful place in Henan province", Yaoshan Mountain is an ideal place for sightseeing, summer holidays, health-restoring, and scientific research. The three most impressive experiences at Yaoshan Mountain are appreciating the mountain, worshiping the Buddha, and enjoying its hot springs.
