Pinggu Datao (Pinggu Peach)

Name: Pinggu Datao

Place of origin: Pinggu District of Beijing

Product description:

Pinggu Datao are grown in the shallow hills and rolling countryside of the Yanshan Mountains in the Pinggu District of Beijing, which is rich in sunlight and heat, and spread with sandy or loamy soils. The unique natural conditions give rise to the special qualities of ‘Pinggu Datao’, characterized by big size, bright colour, plenty of juice, rich flavor, moderate saccharinity and a good acid and sweet balance.

A single fruit of Qingfeng, which is the only medium-size variety of Pinggu Datao, should weigh no less than 150g, and the single fruit weight of other varieties of Pinggu Datao should be no less than 275g.

Natural and humanistic factors:

The cultivated area of Pinggu Datao has adequate sunshine and a big difference in temperature between day and night, which is good for effective staining and accumulation of carbohydrates. The region enjoys an annual mean radiation of 5,103 joules per square meter, with a mean sunshine ratio of 58 %. And Pinggu is situated in a mountainous hydro-geological basin, possessing an independent underwater system with water of superb quality and abundant quantity.

There is a long history of peach cultivation in Pinggu. Records have been found dating back to as early as the Ming Dynasty.

Shaanxi Pingguo

Name: Shaanxi Pingguo (Shaanxi Apple)

Place of origin: 29 counties in Weibei District of Shaanxi Province

Product description:

Shaanxi Pingguo grows in the Loess Plateau in the Weibei region, with high altitudes and plenty of sunshine and fertile soil. All these natural conditions contribute to its characteristics such as bright color for red varieties, beautiful tone for the yellowish-green variety, thick cuticles, crisp flesh, appropriate sweet and sour taste, long storage life and ease of transport.

The apple should grow to fullness to ensure a clean peel and absence of any peculiar odor or unusual moisture content from outside sources. It should reach the proper maturity for consumption quality and storage.

Natural and humanistic factors:

The thick soil layer that covers the apple-growing area of Shaanxi province is as deep as 80 to 200 meters. The soft loess contains many microelements that are good for health. The growing area for Shaanxi apples is 800 to 1 200 meters above sea level, with a luminous intensity of 3,500-50,000 cd and 2,200 to 2,400 hours of sunshine per year which makes the apple brightly colored with a thick layer of cuticular wax and added sugar, acid and vitamin C content.

Pruneau d'Agen,Pruneau d'Agen mi-cuits

Name: Pruneau d'Agen,Pruneau d'Agen mi-cuits

Place of origin: Lot-et-Garonne, Dordogne, Lot, Ger and Tarn-et-Garonne of France

Product description:

The raw martial of Pruneau d'Agen is Prune d'Ente. The product is egg-shaped dried fruit, the color of it is a lustrous dark brown or black. The product is non-sticky and has a soft texture. The pulp color is between yellowish brown and golden yellow. The water content of the product does not exceed 35% and the number of fruits should not exceed 77 per 500 grams. Pruneau d'Agen mi-cuits is another traditional product with water content between 30%-35%.

Natural and humanistic factors:

The cultivated area of Prune d'Ente, the raw martial of the products, is affected by the climate of the Mediterranean which is changeable, hot in spring and summer and rainy all the year round. The climate contributes to the excellent environment for nutritious and richly-flavored fruit. Moreover, the chalk soil of the cultivated area also benefits the growing of the Prune d'Ente.

The cultivation of Prune d'Ente in protected areas dates back to the twelfth century, when Crusaders brought them back from Damascus. From the second half of the sixteenth century, people have been using bread ovens to dry the prunes.

Scottish Farmed Salmon

Name: Scottish Farmed Salmon

Place of origin: West-coast of Scottish, Western, Orkney and Shetland islands.

Product description:

The Scottish salmon is the Atlantic salmon; the cultured salmon of Scotland has their body shape. From the side, the abdomen of the fish is round. After taking out its viscera, there is no obvious collapse of muscle tissue in the body of the fish. The cultured salmon in Scotland have a silvery shiny appearance, and color saturation of its meat must reach at least 26 of the Roche colorimetric fan. The meat of Scottish Farmed Salmon is strong, smooth and fibrous.

Natural and humanistic factors:

The unique environment contributes to the excellent quality of Scottish farmed salmon. The turbulent flow in the bay ensures that the salmon swim continuously, making the meat strong and preventing excessive fat accumulation. Frequent water exchange ensures adequate oxygen supply, speeds up the metabolism of the salmon, and helps to increase their body size and weight. The fluctuation of water temperature is very small, which ensures that the salmon grow in a stable environment.
