The Mountain Resort and Outlying Temples Tourist Attraction, located in Chengde, Hebei province, is composed of four scenic areas: the Mountain Resort, the Potala & Palace of Panchen Lama, Puning Temple and Qingchuifeng (Sledge Hammer Peak).

Built between 1703 and 1792, the Mountain Resort is a vast complex of palaces and administrative and ceremonial buildings, used as a summer getaway for imperial members of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Temples and gardens blend harmoniously into a landscape of lakes, pasture and forests. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the Mountain Resort is a rare historic remnant of the final days of Chinese feudal society.

The Potala & Palace of Panchen Lama Scenic Area is located to the north of the Mountain Resort. Highlights include the Putuo Zongcheng Temple and Xumi Fushou Temple, which were built in 1767 and 1780 respectively.

The Puning Temple Scenic Area is located on the river bank in the northeast area of the Mountain Resort while the Qingchuifeng Scenic Area, which covers 4,005 square meters, is located in the east of the Mountain Resort.

The tourist attraction was named a world cultural heritage by UNESCO in 1994.
