Yinxu refers to the site of the Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century BC) capital — one of the ancient and major historical capitals of China.
It is the source of the archeological discovery of oracle bones and an oracle bone script, which resulted in recognition of the earliest known Chinese writing.
The site was selected as the top among the significant archeological discoveries in China in the 20th century.
Yinxu was added to the list in 2006.
