
Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes is the generic term of all the mogao grottoes and the West 1000-Buddha Cave Spot. It is one of the Top Four grottoes in China with exquisite Buddhist artifacts and manuscripts.
The Mogao grottoes art is based on Buddhism classics and at the same time has close connection to people's lives in ancient times. It is an important way for scientists and artist in modern times to learn about the arts and sciences of history.
It was listed as a cultural heritage site by UNESCO in December, 1987.
