The southern Chinese city of Guangzhou received 5.78 million visitors and earned tourism income of 3.8 billion yuan ($58.6 million) over this year's Dragon Boat Festival (June 16-18), according to the Guangzhou tourism bureau.

Most of the tourist destinations in Guangzhou, especially the city's symbolic landmark Five-Ram Statue in Yuexiu Park, saw a surge of tourists during the three-day holiday.

Traditional Chinese customs like dragon boat races rolled out across the city, which amazed visitors from home and abroad. "The festive atmosphere here is so strong that I want to stay here for a long time to watch the dragon boat races along the Pearl River," said Jack, a foreign visitor who came to Guangzhou a week ago.

Often referred to as a "City of Flowers", Guangzhou has always been quite appealing to tourists. Many of them speak highly of the city's convenient transportation, as the hub city is connected to a great many domestic and international cities via high-speed railway or direct air flights.

Statistically, Guangzhou witnessed a substantial growth in tourist volume over the past holidays thanks to the city's convenient transportation and diversified travel experiences.
