Three baby black-and-white ruffed lemurs, born 40 days ago at Guangzhou Chimelong Safari Park, met Guangzhou citizens for the first time on June 16.

The newborns, weighing 110 grams, 100 grams and 90 grams respectively, are the first ruffed lemur triplets born in China. Their birth was a rarity across the world as the species normally has one or two babies per litter.

The three babies are in good condition and weigh about 400 grams now.

Black-and-white ruffed lemurs are endemic to the island of Madagascar and the species was classified as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature in 2012 due to the loss of habitat caused by deforestation.

Currently there are over 20 baby black-and-white ruffed lemurs living at Chimelong Safari Park.
