Recommended tourist routes in Shenyang

Route 1: Shenyang Palace Museum – Marshal Zhang's Mansion – Shenyang Financial Museum – Chang'an Temple – Laobian Dumpling Restaurant (Zhongjie Street)

The Shenyang Palace Museum is one of the two largest remaining historic palace complexes in China. It holds rich cultural relics from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

Marshal Zhang's Mansion, built in 1914, is the former residence of army marshal Zhang Zuolin and his son Zhang Xueliang, a famous patriot. The house is referred to as Marshal Mansion or Young Marshal Mansion. In 2002, it was officially renamed Marshal Zhang's Mansion Museum and Liaoning Museum of Modern and Contemporary History. A key cultural relic site under State protection, the grounds feature small and large buildings, including one built for Miss Zhao Yidi, Zhang Xueliang's wife.

Shenyang Financial Museum is the city's oldest financial center and was once the private bank of marshal Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang. Built in 1930, it is the largest financial museum in China. Hosting a collection of currencies from around the world, it is also an ideal place to learn the history of currency.

Chang'an Temple offers the oldest architecture in Shenyang. The 5,000-square-meter site is a cultural relic site under provincial protection.

Laobian dumplings are a traditional snack in the Shenyang region dating back more than 180 years.

Route 2: Fuling Tomb – Qipan Mountain scenic spot – Guandong Movie and TV Town – Huaxia Minsucun Restaurant

The Fuling Tomb, also known as the East Tomb, is the mausoleum of Nurhaci, the founding emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), and his wife. It sits atop a 108-step climb up the mountain.

Qipan Mountain is a provincial scenic spot famous for its beautiful landscapes offered all-year-round. It once hosted the Women's World Chess Championship and, in 2000, it was approved as a national 4A tourist attraction.

Guandong Movie and TV Town, located in the Qipan Mountain scenic spot, features 177 buildings constructed in the style of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. The "town" brings together tourism and the film and television industries. Showcasing Guandong (east of Shanhaiguan) culture of the early 20th century, it is the only facility of its kind in China.

Huaxia Minsucun Restaurant focuses on catering, offering specialties and local dishes, from hot dishes, soups and stews, to desserts and staple foods.

Route 3: Zhaoling Tomb – Huang Temple – Shengjing Moulin Rouge – Eight Bowls of Manchu Nationality

The tomb of the second Qing emperor, Huangtaiji, and Empress Xiaozhuang, Zhaoling Tomb is one of China's best-preserved ancient imperial tombs.

Huang Temple, also known as Shisheng Temple, is located in Huangsi Square in Shenyang’s Heping district. Built in 1936, it is the only imperial temple of the Qing Dynasty in Northeast China.

Shengjing Moulin Rouge stages performances featuring nationally prominent actors, along with face changing and magic shows.

The Eight Bowls of Manchu Nationality are the traditional dishes of the Manchu people, largely established during the Emperor Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty.

Route 4: Industrial Museum of China – Exhibition Center of Workers Village – Yong’an Bridge – Liulaogen Stage

The Industrial Museum of China is the first of its kind in the country. A reconstruction and expansion of the existing Shenyang Tiexi Casting Museum, the facility was appointed a national 4A tourist attraction in February 2017. The museum includes sections devoted to machine tools, casting, general history and the 10-year history of Tiexi new district.

The Exhibition Center of the Workers Village, constructed in the 1950s, consists of seven dormitory buildings kept as they were at various stages between the 1950s and 1990s that allow visitors to experience the living conditions of workers throughout history.

During the Qing Dynasty, Yong'an Bridge offered the only possible route for the emperors' eastern inspection tour, and was thus deemed vitally important.

Liulaogen Stage, the former Shenyang Stage Theatre, was first constructed in 1908 and now serves as a platform for Zhao Benshan, a famous comic, to perform errenzhuan, a two-person folk performance popular in Northeast China.

Route 5: The 9.18 Historical Museum – Relics of Xinle – Zhaoling Tomb – Najia Laoyuanzi

The 9.18 Historical Museum is a national patriotic education center housing historical documents, photographs and relics.

Relics of Xinle houses artifacts from matriarchal village societies known to have existed during the Neolithic Age over 7,200 years ago.Zhaoling Tomb hosts the remains of second emperor Huangtaiji and Empress Xiaozhuang of the Qing Dynasty, and is one of China's well-preserved ancient imperial tombs.

Najia Laoyuanzi is a time-honored restaurant suited to gatherings of family and friends.
